FAQ

  • I have recently been passed over in a promotion. I was told that the other candidate could "get along better with the people" although I clearly knew more ... but I've already put so much energy into the company that I desperately need career coaching ... Nevertheless I'd rather not run through our human resources department, because that's the end of my personal file. Do you know if my health insurance company will pay part of the cost of the coaching or will I have to pay it out of my private pocket?

It is true that with higher positions within the hierarchy of a company, interpersonal skills become more important. Not only in questions of promotion, but also as an important prerequisite for success in the management task itself. It is understandable that this may seem unfair to you, especially since your previous profile is different. I can only encourage you to devote yourselve to developing interpersonal skills through coaching if you care about (and why should you not) being promoted in the hierarchy. Personally, I find coaching a smart step that will certainly be appreciated positively by your employer. I would not try to keep the topic a secret, on the contrary I would try to finance the coaching by the employer.

But the final decision is up to you. Of course, you can also pay the costs out of your own pocket and then have the guarantee that absolutely no one learns of the coaching. A refinancing through health insurance is not possible. You are not effected in your health.

  • I have a good acquaintance who has been in psychological treatment for a few years and ended up in a strange and altered way. In any case, she has never regained her old power and is weaker today than she was before. I would like to do a coaching. But I am afraid that maybe it destroys more than it helps.

The effect of psychological treatment that you describe can occur when a therapist unilaterally works out the weaknesses of a client. Bad therapists can try this with the mistaken hope that recognizing weaknesses would lay the foundation for overcoming them. The reality is rather different. If you think too much about your own deficits and weaknesses, that draws you down even more. Moreover, the theoretical knowledge of one’s own weaknesses is often less useful than many think.

I therefore follow a fundamentally different approach. First of all, I focus on what is currently still going on or is already doing well in order to further expand the fields of competence that were already in existence together with the client. I have had very positive experiences with this, because this usually helps clients to more creative power, optimism and opportunities for action. Moreover, with this approach, a weakening of the client is excluded. I can guarantee that we will shape your coaching so that you will experience it in a positive and strengthened way. Everything else would be nonsensical, of course.

  • I've had some pretty complicated problems for some time. I've already ... I do not think anyone can really help me anymore. Do you think you can handle such a difficult case?

Popularly, there is a saying that it takes about as long to pull a cart “out of the dirt”, as it had previously taken to drive the cart “in the dirt”. This expectation, of course, frustrates especially those who have long struggled on the same topics. But because the suffering has been going on for a long time and the problems seem varied, their solution does not necessarily have to be particularly lengthy. Of course, each case seems insoluble. Otherwise you would have solved the problems yourself. With expert help from outside, however, quite different possibilities often arise. Yes, I think we can handle your difficult case, even if I do not know it yet in detail.

  • I am totally tired and exhausted, constantly. This cannot go on any further. There is an urgent need for change. Physically, too, I've lost a lot of muscles lately ... But doctors just cannot find anything. What should I do?

First of all, they should rule out that your fatigue is the result of a serious physical illness. Therefore a timely, extensive, conventional medical examination on the cutting edge of medical art is the right thing to do. If this despite many investigations does not lead to any clear findings and / or you want to look into the psychological factors that may contribute to your being this exhausted all the time, then you can and should take complementary coaching. This seems to be the case in your example. The decisive word, however, is “complementary”. Coaching cannot be a substitute for medical treatment.

After these clarifications, I can tell you that the situation you are describing very often goes back to mental processes that you are probably unaware of and that you almost certainly do not have proper access to and therefore little leverage. I have experience in helping you to track down the holistic factors that cause your fatigue in the core and to help you find a better way to handle this. We should make an appointment soon. In cases like yours, it is important that you do not continue like before.

  • I would like to do a coaching. But I'm not sure how good that works for me at all. How many sessions do you normally need until you notice an improvement? So that you feel that you are on the right path? ... would you agree if we agree on performance-based compensation?

When it comes to coaching, many people still think of a long-standing psychotherapy in which the client is allegedly lying on a couch and talking in free association about his mental health problems, while a therapist sitting in a chair notes down extensive notes in a block. Whether this cliché has ever met the psychotherapeutic practice, I dare to doubt. At any rate, coaching is something completely different. A coaching tries less to fathom the shoals of the human soul, but to help the client in his topics with himself and the environment in a very concrete and pragmatic way.

With just a few sessions, noticeable improvements can usually be achieved. However, as with any service, there cannot be a 100% success guarantee (as you know, there is no such thing with any doctor or lawyer). In order to keep your risk as low as possible, the first half hour of the order clarification is free of charge with me. If you do not feel good we can stop right there and you have not lost any money. After the order clarification, I calculate per hour. Again, you can stop anytime you like if you think we don’t make sufficient improvement. Fortunately, that’s the exception in most cases. In that sense, your risk of being disappointed is low in my view.

Since you have put a performance-related fee into play, I would like to mention the case in which your benefits significantly exceed the amount of my fee. In this case, you are, of course, free to round up my fee according to your ideas.
